Add repeat prescriptions to your holiday essentials planning

Add repeat prescriptions to your holiday essentials planning

29th June 2017

Off on your holidays soon? If so, make sure you add ordering your repeat prescription to the list of pre-holiday essentials planning.

Local people are being urged to make sure they have the medications they need while they enjoy a break to avoid the hassle of trying to order an emergency prescription, particularly if they are away from home. Not ordering the medicines you need could spoil your holiday and of course have an impact on your health and wellbeing.

Ordering your repeat prescription in good time will ensure you have what you need and avoid additional stress and worry.

And, in case you are not aware, there are alternatives to visiting your GP practice to order a repeat. Many practices offer an online facility – check with yours to find out what is available. It is quick and easy to register for the online service, and it could save you valuable time in the weeks leading up to your break. Your local pharmacy will also offer a free online repeat prescription service. This may well be more convenient for you than visiting the practice. As part of the service they may be able to send free email reminders – useful when you are perhaps thinking of the sun, sand and sea more than your medicines. Please talk to your pharmacist about this service.

GP and chair of West Leicestershire CCG Dr Mayur Lakhani said: “It is essential to make sure you have the medicines you need when you are on holiday. You will avoid a lot of difficulties, particularly while away from home, by planning ahead.

“Most GP practices will try and issue you with the repeat prescription within two days of receiving your request, but if they are busy this might take longer. If you have your repeat prescription but haven’t taken it to the pharmacy, then remember there are late opening pharmacies in your area.

“Best of all, avoid the stress of worrying about your medicines, order well in advance and enjoy a well-earned break.”
