National award recognises patients’ voices make a difference

Healthwatch Leicestershire has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award as part of the Healthwatch Network Awards of Achievement 2015.

The Awards showcase and reward the individuals and teams across the network who have demonstrated exceptional impact within local communities.

The nomination for Healthwatch Leicestershire is for its report ‘A Week at Leicester Royal Infirmary: The patient perspective’, in the category ‘Making a Difference to Healthcare’.

Longer fasting hours during Ramadan 2015

With Ramadan starting this week, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) across Leicester City, Leicestershire and Rutland are urging practicing Muslims to make sure they keep healthy while fasting.

Because Ramadan falls in the UK’s mid-summer this year, when daylight hours are at their longest, their fast will be greater than for Muslims in more equatorial countries.

Carers Week 8 – 14 June 2015: New scheme to support carers in Leicestershire

There are currently an estimated 70,000 unpaid carers in Leicestershire. This is a physically and emotionally demanding task, with carers being more likely to suffer from ill health than those without caring responsibilities.

To support carers in the area West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and East Leicestershire and Rutland CCG are working collaboratively with Leicestershire County Council to commission a new service to identify carers earlier and provide them with advice and support to better care for themselves, as well as for their loved ones.

Don't let allergies ruin your summer

For some people the warmer temperatures bring misery in the form of allergies such as asthma, hay fever and eczema.

These allergies have trebled in the last 20 years, with one in two people having one or more allergy before the age of 18.

East Leicestershire and Rutland and West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are advising people to visit their local pharmacy to get advice and treatment for allergies.
