To mark antibiotics awareness week, we are supporting the Public Health England campaign to “Keep Antibiotics Working” and encouraging people to sign up to be an antibiotics guardian (www.antibioticguardian.com).

By pledging online, local residents will promise to use antibiotics wisely to ensure they, and their communities, continue to benefit from these medicines in future.

NHS health checklist prepares people for winter

People living with one or more long term health conditions are the focus of a new NHS Self Care campaign this winter.

The five day campaign, developed by the local NHS, coincides with the National Self Care Week which runs from Monday 13th November until Friday 17th November 2017.

The fourth day of the campaign focuses on encouraging people living with asthma, diabetes, heart problems and those who have suffered a stroke or diagnosed with liver or kidney disease, to heed advice produced by health experts to keep them well - not only throughout winter but for life.

The NHS in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland is launching a campaign this Self-Care Week to build patients’ confidence in preventing and treating minor illnesses themselves. The campaign, which runs from 13th to 19th November 2017, brings together a full range of videos and information into one place so that patients are better equipped to take control of their own health for life.

Self-Care Week, which forms part of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland winter plan, will feature a different topic on each day to break down the advice given into manageable chunks.

NHS shares top tips for taking care of common childhood illnesses

Parents and carers across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are being encouraged to take advantage of NHS guidance on how to take care of common childhood illnesses.

The advice is being made available to launch the local NHS Self-Care campaign, which runs from 13th to 19th November 2017, to build people’s confidence in preventing and treating minor illnesses themselves. The campaign brings together a range of resources, including factsheets and videos, all into one place so that people are better able to take control of their own health.

Supporting people to stay fit and healthy

There’s a new campaign launching in Leicestershire this week, encouraging people to take care of themselves and knowing what’s available to help them look after their health.

The ‘self-care’ campaign aims to support people to build confidence in treating and preventing minor illnesses so they don’t need more support further down the line.

The county’s Health and Wellbeing Board is launching an intensive campaign of awareness raising, including social media, which also signposts where people can access advice and information.

Asthma sufferers warned of risks of flu

People with asthma and other chronic respiratory conditions are being urged by health leaders in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to get their free flu vaccination, in order to protect themselves this winter.

People who suffer from asthma but control it well, using inhalers or following an asthma plan, often think that the flu jab isn’t free for them or, as their asthma is under control, they wouldn’t need it.
