People living in West Leicestershire have been inspired to make the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle through the New Year, New You campaign run by West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (WL CCG) during January.
The campaign has been a hit with the local community, with more than 1,200 people visiting WL CCG’s website www.westleicestershireccg.nhs.uk/newyear for information on giving up smoking, cutting down on alcohol and losing weight.
A week-long health bus touring Loughborough, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Coalville, Nuneaton and Thurmaston was particularly successful, with over 630 people hopping aboard for health checks and advice to achieve their New Year health resolutions, and almost 11,000 people were reached through a social media campaign.
Professor Mayur Lakhani, GP and clinical lead of WL CCG, said: “Our New Year, New You campaign has provided the tools, information and support to make a real difference to people’s health.
“By targeting weight management, alcohol reduction and smoking, we can help individuals to change their behaviour or access support services, which will reduce their risk of developing long term illnesses and improve their chances of living a longer and healthier life.”
Tricia Illson, community life champion at Asda’s Thurmaston store, added: “The bus was a big hit with our customers. They enjoyed getting help and advice from the health team and really appreciated receiving the leaflets, giveaways and other information handed out to them. It was an excellent and useful event and we would definitely welcome a return visit in the future.”
