Diabetes patients urged to get vaccinated from flu

Patients living with diabetes are being urged by health leaders from across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to get the flu jab this winter as their illness makes them more at risk from complications such as pneumonia.

The three clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) in the area, West Leicestershire CCG, East Leicestershire and Rutland CCG and Leicester City CCG have come together to raise awareness around World Diabetes Day, that diabetes patients are at risk from the flu.

Health and wellbeing fair takes to the road

This Autumn sees the launch of a new campaign aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of people in West Leicestershire.

Called ‘Healthy You, Happy You’, it is aimed at raising awareness of how to improve both physical and emotional health.

It brings together the expertise of NHS and social care organisations, as well as the voluntary sector and patients’ groups, who will provide a wealth of advice and information on a wide range of topics.

The next step in shaping community health services in Hinckley and Bosworth

NHS leaders are inviting Hinckley and Bosworth people to take part in a key stage in shaping future community health services in the area.

They want people to attend one of two events where they will work with NHS staff, members of the voluntary and community sector to assess the possibilities for the future of community health services and help establish what is feasible and appropriate for the future.

Views sought on voluntary sector mental health and wellbeing services

The three NHS organisations that commission health services across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are reviewing the funding they provide to voluntary and community sector organisations which support people with mental health needs.

As part of this review, they are keen to hear from patients and members of the public, to understand what aspects of voluntary and community sector care are most important to service users and carers.

Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to lead NHS into new era of urgent care

NHS England Chief Executive Simon Stevens and the NHS Five Year Forward View partners today (Friday) announced eight new vanguards that will launch the transformation of urgent and emergency care for more than nine million people.

This includes the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland System Resilience Group that will take the lead in improving urgent care for 1.1 million people in the area.

Be prepared for accidents during the summer holidays

With the summer holidays about to start in Leicestershire, the NHS is encouraging parents to plan ahead and make sure they are fully prepared for the inevitable knocks, scrapes and grazes.

More than two million children under the age of 15 experience accidents in and around the home every year. Those under four years of age have the most bumps due to a combination of developing dexterity, curiosity and spirit of adventure1. Some basic first aid knowledge and supplies will help you cope when accidents happen.
