CCG urges young carers to seek support

9th June 2014

The CCG is marking national Carers Week (9-14 June) by encouraging young carers not to care in silence and isolation but to seek support if they care for a relative and haven’t told anyone officially.  

A young carer is someone aged 18 or under who helps look after a relative who has a condition such as a disability, illness, mental health condition, or a drug or alcohol problem. 

Board meeting open to the public

Members of the public are invited to attend our next board meeting on Tuesday 10 June from 1.30pm to 4.30pm in boardrooms 1 and 2 at the CCG’s headquarters at 55 Woodgate, Loughborough, LE11 2TZ.

The CCG plans and pays for many of the NHS services for people living in Hinckley and Bosworth, North Charnwood, North West Leicestershire and South Charnwood, including hospitals, mental health services and community healthcare.

Patients are a virtue for local health services

Patient Participation Groups (PPGs) in West Leicestershire are encouraging members of the community to get involved in helping to shape local health services ahead of Patient Participation Awareness Week (2-7 June).

Made up of working groups of volunteer patients, PPGs give ordinary people a voice and empower them to help shape and improve the quality of GP care and ensure healthcare services are responsive to patient needs and priorities.

Fit for the Future – Ashby and District Hospital consultation

Following a recent public consultation, a paper into the future of community health services in the Ashby area was presented to the boards of West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), which plans and pays for local health services, and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT), which provides community health services.                                            

The boards were asked to review the outcome of the consultation and make a decision regarding future models of care and the future of Ashby and District Hospital. 

Fit for the Future – Ashby and District Hospital consultation to hold extraordinary board meetings

The independent findings from the recent public consultation on the future of community health services in Ashby will be submitted to extraordinary board meetings of our clinical commissioning group and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust (LPT).

The meetings will take held at the Royal Hotel, Station Rd, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, LE65 2GP on 27 May. The West Leicestershire CCG board meeting will take place between 1pm and 2pm, followed by the LPT board meeting from 2pm to 3pm.

Parents and older people targeted in new Choose Better guides

The youngest and oldest users of NHS services in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland are being targeted in two new Choose Better guides.

Professor Mayur Lakhani, GP and West Leicestershire CCG chair, said: “We hope families and older people will find these two new guides helpful in directing them to the right service at the right time.”
