slide2Earl Shilton patients will soon benefit from a major NHS funding boost to improve local GP facilities.

Heath Lane Surgery is set to receive almost £770k from the NHS England Estates and Technology Transformation Fund. Together with an investment from Heath Lane Surgery it will fund four additional consulting rooms, a surgical suite, an additional office and reconfiguration to the current administration space with relocation of medical records.

The benefits to patients will include an increase in the availability of pre-bookable appointments, a Home-from-Home Renal Dialysis Unit, higher tiered minor clinics and additional contraception clinics for coils and implants, as well as more trainee doctors. The funding will also enable the practice to continue to seek secondary care services that can be provided in house, to prevent patients from having to travel to hospitals.

Dr Priestman of Heath Lane Surgery said: “How fortunate we are to be able to improve and extend the practice at a time when we are expecting patient numbers and demand to see health care professionals increase. We have been well supported by NHS England in getting this development approved”

Dr Lawrence, also of Heath Lane Surgery said: “This is an exciting development in order to provide increased healthcare and services to the people of Earl Shilton and surrounding areas”.

Professor Mayur Lakhani, Chair of West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) said: “This is fantastic news for patients and staff at Heath Lane Surgery. Practice staff will be able to provide more secondary care services on site, which will save patients from unnecessary trips to hospital. As a CCG promoting more joined-up, integrated care based on the needs of patients, we are delighted by this announcement”.

Building work commenced in the week beginning 5th November 2018, and is anticipated to last for around 40 weeks. Whilst works are being carried out Heath Lane patients are being encouraged to consider using alternative car parking that is available in Earl Shilton due to the slight impact of the buidling works on car parking space at the practice.
